Been invited to a test by a developer? Here's how to record using our software


Developers will often use PlaytestCloud software to run their own playtests. Our software has the ability to record both your screen and microphone (after permissions are granted of course!), so they are a handy part of a developer's toolkit.

When you take part in a test through our app, you’ll first receive an email invitation with all the required steps, such as recording sessions or surveys. It may also include special instructions from the developer with helpful background for the game, such as whether headphones are needed. It's very important that you read all aspects of the invite.

To help you get started, below is a written description and a video showing what to expect during your test!

Accessing the PlaytestCloud app

Our app is called PlaytestCloud: Be a Playtester. For mobile tests, it's available in both the Play Store and the App Store. Our PC users will receive their software installation link in the playtest email invite.

You will need to install and log in to the app.

This is very easy: simply input the email address that the game developer has sent the invite email to. You'll then access our software and will see your playtest listed there.

Tapping on the playtest will begin the setup steps. Depending on the requirements of the test, you can be taken through:

  • an NDA;
  • a mic check (if you need to talk while playing);
  • a headphone prompt;
  • a short intro video which you can get a sneak peek at below;
  • granting permissions for allowing the software to record your screen;
  • and beginning the recording in the app when you're ready to start.

Your gameplay will upload to us while you record. We'll send you status updates via email about your upload, to remind you about further steps in the test, and to confirm receipt of your recording. And then that's PlaytestCloud's side done!

Side note: Our emails may end up in your spam folder, so you haven't been able to locate any then it's a good idea to check!
