Error messages: Trying to install a game

First off - sorry to hear that you're seeing an error message! Let's try to get that fixed for you.

We've compiled a list of common error messages that testers see when trying to install a game. If you are seeing an error message not listed here or if you continue to see one after troubleshooting, please let us know at help@playtestcloud.com.

My Android device says "App not installed"

Sometimes this happens that when trying to install a game on Android. The installation will not complete and just show you a pretty generic error saying "App not installed".

From our experience, there are some common reasons why this might happen to you, all summarised well in this article:

"Parsing the package" error

It is always possible that the game itself is having issues, however there are some things you can check to troubleshoot the problem on your end first.

The following link provides prompts that the Community team will ask you about your device or to try, so it's useful to check them out now:

"App can't display over other apps" error

If you're having difficulties with granting this permission, we've found a YouTube video that should be able to help you with that:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2MYDUloMFk

Bear in mind:

  • "Special app access" may be found under a three-dotted menu on the App page, rather than being listed like in the video.
  • "Display over other apps" may also be written as "Appear on top".

You could also try to close down other, unnecessary apps as this should help the process.

If you're using Android with operating system 15, please refer to this article.

"Feature not available because it will slow down the device" error

This error normally shows when a device:

  • needs to be updated;
  • does not have enough room;
  • is too old; or
  • when it has too many things running in the background.

Changing one of these may help you to get started with the playtest.

If that doesn't work, do you have another device that you could use? You can take a look at a list of devices you can playtest on - What Devices Can I Playtest On?
