'Display over other apps' permission on Android (OS 15)

What is this permission?

It allows apps to display notifications in front of an app you're already using. An already set up example of this is when you get a phone call: It displays over your other apps as a priority.

In our case, we need you to let the game you're testing appear over the PlaytestCloud app, so that both can function at the same time - one playing, while the other is recording.

Note: Depending on your device, this permission may also be called 'Appear on top'

How do I set it up?

There are 3 steps to grant this permission:

  1. Find the 'Display over other apps' permission page in the Settings on your device. Find the app that requires the permission and select it. On the next screen, allow 'Display over other apps'. A message will pop up that says 'App was denied access' - don't worry, this is expected! Here's what it looks like:

  1. Find the game app in your Settings and tap on it to be taken to the App Info screen. When there, tap the 3-dot menu icon in the top right corner and select 'Allow restricted settings'. It looks like this:

  1. Final step! Return to the 'Display over other apps' permission page and select the app. On the next screen, enable the permission. It will look like this:

We can help!

If you need to do this, our PlaytestCloud app will soon guide you through the process by taking you to the relevant screens. It will also let you know if it wasn't completed correctly.
